Surprise Meeting

Today I met a woman who I’ve heard so much about. You don’t expect to walk into a coffee shop on a Saturday morning and meet one of your dearest friend’s best friends. It was a surprise too for M, that she’d be spending the weekend with her beautiful Joy.

I had a wonderful day which started having breakfast with some of my oldest friends in Moscow. Alexa and Aubrey picked me up for our walk downtown. It was a sunny morning, which has been scarce these days, and surprisingly warm. There we met Mauri, Marcus and Miles and to our surprise Mr. Blue walked in. We had a nice breakfast followed by a walk to take the kids to the little downtown play gym at Friendship Square. I still wanted a coffee, so I skipped, ok not really, down to Bucer’s where I see M’s Nethaniel having coffee with a face a feel I know but know I’ve never met.

I’ve heard many stories of M’s first trip to Africa (Ghana) where she met another American girl I believe on the beach, and had bonded quickly. Fast forward a few years later and they are really close friends and Joy was someone that I assumed I’d meet a wedding or something of the like.

Not sure I have all the facts straight, but Joy flew in for the weekend and surprised M. On a simple coffee run before heading to Lewiston with the 3Ms I run into her and Nethaniel. A few exchanges started but needed continuation, after I had to answer Ruby the Pathfinder’s honk. I had to run, but hoped I’d get to spend more time putting a face with all the stories.

I had a really nice time in Costco with the dual entertainment that Miles and I provided for one another. Somehow we got stuck in a black hole and drifted out 2.5 hours later after Mr. Miles finally hit his wall. It’s tough being 2 and waking up the last few nights, in the middle of the night, and then spending your nap time in a shelved conglomerate. Actually I’m pretty amazed at the little guy’s temperament when he’s tired. He’s squirrelly and doesn’t want to be messed with, but he’s still pretty mello.

We hit Joann’s fabric on the way out of town and Mauri was happy to get some stuff to make Miles an Easter Basket. It’s amazing how one woman can be sorting through rope looking stuff to figure out which size is needed for her basket weaving, as another stands behind looking above at the finished baskets thinking, those look good. You can guess which one was standing behind looking at the finished baskets :)

We headed home deprived of McDonald’s fries, honestly, thank you Marcus where Miles finally decided to give in to sleepyness.

Disappointed I wasn’t going to get to spend the evening with Aubrey and Alexa I was happy to have been invited to the S-man household for a friendly dinner. It’s not everyday a friend’s friend comes rolling through town. To top it off, M’s other great friend and partner we’re in town so we had a nice dinner for 6. Food was scrumptious and wine smooth.

In a short time I was able to see how M had so easily connected with Joy in Africa. She is headed to Guide hikes on a Volcano in Guatemala for 6 months and is a bit nervous but entirely excited for this experience. It was a tasty dinner with joyful conversation with people loving and living life.

I’m so blessed and grateful that every time I leave the S-man house I always feel so loved and encouraged. I can’t explain it, nor do I want to, but it’s a bit magical. Thank you M for bringing that into my life.

I had a really wonderful Saturday and I’m thankful for the day spent with most of my favorite people in Moscow. I’m glad to have met a new face that I could so easily become friends with myself.

Ahhhh, it must be spring :)
